“You’ve got AirMail” Miami Beach newest Craft Cocktail destination takes off

by Helena Jose

Airmail takes center stage inside Alton Food Hall,  a recently opened Food Hall and markets inspired by the iconic ones of Europe, where diverse, ethnic cuisines are served side by side.

The bar is named in honor of the historic rum-based cocktail. The Airmail was originally created in the 1940s in honor of the then revolutionary practice of sending mail by air back and forth between Cuba and Miami. Originally served with a postage stamp, Airmail continues this tradition by giving all patrons a free postcard that can be mailed anywhere in the United States.

B9A9219Airmail’s signature menu and seasonal updates are the vision of General Manager and Head Mixologist Sofia Present, who brings over a decade of craft cocktail experience from NYC to Miami for the first time. Prior to Airmail, Sofia learned to bartend at Dutch Kills before stints at Pegu Club, Maison Premiere, the Bourgeois Pig Brooklyn and Middle Branch. Her cocktails have been featured on Tasting Table and Vanity Fair and she has guest bartended in Scotland, Mexico and Canada.

Current menu highlights include: Cobbler Punch (Amontillado Sherry, PX Sherry, Pineapple, Fresh Grapefruit, Cane Sugar, Maraschino Liqueur and Prosecco); Frose (Lo-Fi Vermouth, Havana Club Dark Anejo, Fresh Strawberry, Melon and Lemon); The Monk’s Sazerac (Wild Turkey Rye 101, Benedictine, Green Chartreuse, Honey, Peychaud’s); Blacksails (Ron Zacapa 23, Cocchi di Torino, Montenegro Demerara, Burlesque Bitters)
